Celebrating the Europe Day (09/05/2017)

On the occasion of the annual celebration of the Europe day, the Ambassador of France, Mr Eric Chevallier, and his European counterparts in Doha joined a party along with the business councils of the EU member states.
Regarding the French side, representatives of the Maison de France and the Qatari French Business Council (QFBC) took part to the event.

The French Ambassador delivered an address pointing out the fundamentals of the European project and the progress made by the European Union since its creation in 1950, as well as he spoke about the outcome of the presidential election in France and its impact on the future of the European Union.

In the morning, to celebrate the Europe Day, the Embassies of the EU Member States in Qatar together with the EU Delegation in Riyadh accredited to Qatar and the European National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) Cluster in Qatar, have organised in cooperation with the Doha Institute and the Gulf Studies Center of Qatar University, a conference, which took place at the Doha Institute in front of an audience composed of scholars, diplomats and students.
The lecture compared the process of the European integration and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) integration process, explored possibilities of cooperation between the two regional organizations, as well as increased awareness and better understanding of their structures, policies, and objectives.

The conference was introduced by Dr. Yasir Suleiman Malley, Acting President of Doha Institute and Mr. Olivier Deseez, EUNIC Qatar Cluster President

The speakers were:
- Dr Abdallah Baaboud, Director of the Gulf Studies Center at the College of Arts and Sciences – Qatar University,
- Ambassador Michele Cervone d’Urso, Head of the delegation of the EU to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and to the Secretariat of the GCC,
- Nick Westcott, Managing director of the MENA department of the European External Action Service (EEAS).
