French-Qatari Bilateral Visits
The distinguished guests of the Doha Book Fair held in January 2010 counted several prominent French figures among which Mr. Dominique de Villepin, former Prime Minister, Mr. Dominique Baudis, President of the Arab World Insitute and Mrs Nicole Guedj, former Minister and president of the ‘Red Helmets Foundation’.
Mr. Michel Rocard, Mr. Jean-François Poncet, Mr. Roland Dumas and Mr. Hubert Védrine attended the yearly meeting of the Monaco Club held in Doha in February 2010.
Invited by his counterpart in order to co-preside the event held on 23 October 2010, Mr. Brice Hortefeux, Minister of Interior, Overseas and Local Authorities, inaugurated the Doha session of the Milipol Fair, a yearly fair hosted alternatively in Paris and Doha.
Several top civil servants from the Ministry of Interior, together with the First President of the French Audit Court formed the French delegation that attended the general assembly of the OIPC/Interpol organised in Doha from 8 till 11 November 2010. The President of the French Audiovisual Abroad (AEF) inaugurated the francophone radio ‘Oryx’ on 15 January 2011.
On the Qatari side
The Qatari Minister of Culture, Arts and National Heritage, Dr Hamad bin Abdelaziz Al Kuwari, went to Paris on an official visit in January 2010.
Dr Khaled Al Attiyah, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Dr. Ali Bin Fetais Al Marri, General Prosecutor of the State of Qatar, accompanied the Crow Prince and Vice-Emir in his official visit to France from 2 to 5 February 2010.
The Minister of State for Industrial and Energetic Affairs, Mohamed Saleh Al Sada, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces had several phone conversations with their French counterparts in March of last year.
So did the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani in March, June, November and December 2010.
The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Al Rumeihi was entrusted with the important task to reactivate the strategic dialogue between the foreign offices of the two countries. To do so, he had a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the Quay d’Orsay as well as with the political directors of the concerned geographical areas in June 2010.
Upon the invitation of his counterpart in Paris, the Mayor of Doha paid an official visit to the French capital on 1 and 2 October 2010, which resulted in the signature of agreements between the two local institutions.
Finally, the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry, Mr. Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah also paid a visit to France on 17 October 2010.
