The Director general of The Gendarmerie Nationale (commander of the Special Forces unit GIGN until 2011), Army General, Denis Favier visited Qatar on 9 and 10 September 2014.
He met with the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani on the 9th of september.
They discussed means of reinforcing the cooperation between France and Qatar in the field of security.
The main objectives of this visit were to discuss the security of major events and the exchange of expertise between the two countries.
Following his meeting with the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, General Denis Favier, Director General of the Gendarmerie Nationale made the following statement : “I am very happy to be once again here in Qatar. The cooperation between our two countries is excellent, particularly between the Gendarmerie Nationale and the Internal Security Forces. I was extremely honored to respond to the Prime Minister’s invitation. I have reiterated our availability to work together in support of Qatar’s efforts for the upcoming major events, particularly the Handball World Championships in 2015 and the FIFA World Cup 2022.
On the 10th of September, the Director General of The Gendarmerie Nationale was received, in the presence of the Ambassador of France, Eric Chevallier, by the 2022 World Cup organizing committee, to discuss the different aspects of cooperation in the field of security.
